From Dumfriesshire to Wetherby
Tracy’s story began some distance from Wetherby.
The daughter of Andrew and Pauline Douglas, she grew up on a dairy farm in Dumfriesshire, Scotland.
Life on a working farm provided an early introduction to something that would become an important part of her character: hard work.
Farming does not conveniently stop because it is a weekend, the weather is poor or somebody would prefer a day off. Animals still need looking after and jobs still need completing.
That environment helped establish the work ethic Tracy would later bring to TDS.
It is a simple philosophy that remains relevant to the company today: when there is a job to be done, do it properly.
A Professional Background Before TDS
At the age of 23, Tracy joined the British Army as a Clerk in the Adjutant General’s Corps (AGC).
Her military career lasted 16 years and included postings in the UK, Germany, the Netherlands and Norway.
She also held appointments at Whitehall and NATO headquarters and completed operational tours in Bosnia and Iraq.
During this period Tracy married Peter and they had two children, Louis and Ella.
Her Army career undoubtedly influenced the way she subsequently approached business. Organisation, punctuality, confidentiality and personal responsibility were everyday professional requirements.
However, TDS is not defined by Tracy’s military background.
It is defined by what happened next.
The Decision to Build Something Locally
In 2011, Tracy decided to leave the Armed Forces.
After years of postings and the demands associated with military life, the priority was to provide greater stability for her young family.
Following a period working as an HR Manager for a coal recycling company in Doncaster, Tracy made the decision to establish her own business.
TDS Cleaning Services was created from a standing start.
There was no established customer base.
There was no national brand behind the company.
There was no franchise territory providing ready-made systems and enquiries.
Customers had to be found and, more importantly, they had to be retained.
The business could only succeed if the standard of work gave people a reason to use TDS again.
Building TDS One Customer at a Time
Cleaning is an intensely reputation-driven business.
Advertising can generate an initial telephone call, but it cannot create long-term customer loyalty.
That comes from the service delivered inside the property.
TDS grew because customers liked what they experienced.
They recommended the company to friends, relatives, neighbours and colleagues. Those recommendations generated additional customers, who in turn became part of the company’s growing local reputation.
This organic development remains enormously important to TDS.
When somebody personally recommends a cleaning company, they are effectively putting their own reputation behind that recommendation.

As the reputation of TDS developed, so did the range of properties and clients we were trusted to look after.
Over the years, TDS has provided cleaning services within the homes of a number of Leeds United footballers, alongside successful entrepreneurs, business owners, professionals and other discerning private clients.
We are naturally proud that people in these positions have chosen TDS.
However, there is an equally important point.
We do not name them.
Discretion is part of professional domestic cleaning.
High-profile clients have exactly the same entitlement to privacy as every other TDS customer.
The fact that somebody is a professional footballer or successful businessperson does not turn their private home into a marketing opportunity.
Our job is to clean it.
